Although halving it doesn't free up much more resources, it makes my laptop run cooler and the otherwise noisy fan now goes down to its lowest speed for parts of the time, which it almost never did before. (See my picture just posted - there are some new freezing periodicity that should be looked into.)Īn interesting step forward, though, is that FF consumes notably less CPU now after the workaround. It feels like the freezes now are perhaps a bit shorter less occurring, but still bad. There is still something that makes FF freeze, and the problem accumulates over time just like before. I recently made the workaround mentioned in Bug 484964 (increased the preference from 10,000 to 120,000 milliseconds to prevent frequent disk writes etc) and initially thought the whole problem was over, but it was not. (The "General settings" include tabs and some more stuff I don't know in detail, but here's a pic of the Mozbackup choices for reference: ) But when I made a fresh FF installation and restored (via Mozbackup) ONLY my "General settings" - not bookmarks, not history, not cookies etc - the same old problem appeared anyway. Some people indicate that the problem could depend on the number of bookmarks, or corrupted bookmarks.
MOZILLA FIREFOX NOT RESPONDING EVERY FEW SECONDS HOW TO
The fact that some people got aware of the problems first in 3.5 (or some other specific version) could possibly indicate that the problem depends on some suddenly appearing "illness" that every installation does not have from the start, and that could be harder to find a description of how to find and debug. ("Flash players stutter during video or game playback every ten seconds or so - lasts for 1 to 2 seconds, then continues.") In my opinion, Bug 484964 should be marked as a duplicate of this bug. For me it definitely happens anywhere, not just on Flash videos. Importantly, while most reports complain specifically about videos, I think most people simply don't notice when it happens at other times.
MOZILLA FIREFOX NOT RESPONDING EVERY FEW SECONDS MAC OS X
There's also Bug 477852, which appears to be the Mac OS X equivalent. Odd.Ī collection of links with people reporting this (which could be of relevance): Numerous threads exist online with plenty of users reporting this, however this is the only Bugzilla issue I managed to pinpoint. The pause interval is usually in the 0.5s-1.5s range, while the interval between pauses is around 4s-30s (that's how I perceive it anyway these are by no means accurate measurements). It does increase with the number of open tabs and how long Firefox has been running. Seeing the same issues in the above build - pretty much exactly as described.
MOZILLA FIREFOX NOT RESPONDING EVERY FEW SECONDS WINDOWS
I checked browsing the same sites, same open tabs with other browsers, but they didn't show this issue.īuild Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows U Windows NT 6.0 en-GB rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090729 Firefox/3.5.2 (.NET CLR 9) I started noticing this kind of problems since version 3.0.2/3. Notice that Fx periodically becomes irresponsive after being running for a while (jerky/paused video, scroll not responding, cannot switch to other tabs, etc.)įx periodically becomes irresponsive (jerky/paused video, scroll not responding, cannot switch to other tabs, etc.) while the rest of the system remains responsive. Open a few sites in different tabs -at least one of them with embedded video.Ģ. It also seems to occur more frecuently the more time Firefox keeps running.ġ. This seems more prone to happen when playing embedded video and/or with multiple tabs open, specially with many images/flash.
The issue repeats again every few minutes. This lasts for a few seconds, then everything comes back to normal. While using Firefox 3.0.x continuously, it periodically becomes irresponsive: videos jerk and/or pause links in web pages don't work cannot switch to other open tabs menus don't work toolbars don't work mouse pointer doesn't change shape while hovering links, forms, etc.
